GSG’s Justin Lapatine joined a panel of experts during City and State’s Transportation Summit today. The panel, including government officials and transportation leaders, focused on reimagining New York’s transit systems following the dip in ridership at the outbreak of the pandemic. While ridership has suffered, leaders are confident that public transit will flourish again as New Yorkers begin to return to normal life and transportation technologies improve.
Justin cited recent public opinion research from GSG that shows significant majorities of riders in NY have a better feeling towards the transit system than they did before the pandemic, despite COVID’s initial blow to ridership.
“People believe that infrastructure is moving in the right direction,” said Justin. “The public transit system is the lifeblood of the region. If it’s not functioning our economy is not functioning.”
